I also speak some Spanish, know some sign language, can play the trumpet, keep a journal, and have been in the Gifted and Talented program, to name a few. One that I'd like to share in more detail is my ability to solve Rubik's cubes.
In the 6th grade, Rubik's cubes were once again a craze among students. I had a Rubik's cube and decided I wanted to join the club. So, I spent a few days paying a little less attention in class and I learned how to solve the cube using the beginner's method. Suddenly, a whole new world wa opened up to me and my fervor began.
Soon, I purchased a 2x2 and a speed cube. That wasn't enough. I had to have a mirror cube, a 4x4, a 5x5, a pyraminx and a megaminx. Eventually I also got a nicer speed cube and a 6x6. And yes, I learned how to solve all of those as well. I even learned later how to solve a Rubik's cube using what is called the Fridrich method, which is much faster. When I was practicing everyday and working on it a lot, I was able to get my time below 20 seconds.
In addition to being a mega nerd athlete bagpiper, I also have had to work a job. 2 of them, actually. I have worked both at Rexburg Rapids and at The Hickory.
When it came time for my sister to get a job, she decided to get her lifeguard and swim teacher certifications and work at Rexburg Rapids. She got to take me to parties and teach me different things, and I loved it. After taking a Junior Lifeguard class, I was set on making this my job. So, I did. At 15 I became a lifeguard, and at 16 I also became certified to teach swimming lessons. I got to spend 3 summers working in the hot sun with a bunch of other High School age kids and it was awesome.
Later on, I needed to get a job that would go through the school year, instead of just the summer. I ended up at The Hickory. I started out as a buss boy and didn't have a great attitude. However, I slowly warmed up to the people and started to show forth more initiative. I was able to get a better position as an expo making salads and running food. After that, I was also able to move up and become Food Ninja, which is one of the leadership positions at the Restaurant. After working hard at that, I was promoted to Server. I very much enjoy that position for both the financial benefits, as well as the experiences I get to have with people. I have many friends there now and am very grateful for my job.
